One of the latest smartphones to compete in the midrange category has been revealed and is now to officially launch this Q4 2019.
Built with a F1.8 ultra large aperture and the half-inch sensor, the realme 5 Pro is already out in the market in India and is gaining favorable reviews from the tech community and is pitting against the new Samsung Galaxy M30s because of its very affordable price range. Both phones run on Android Pie but with different skins on top.
Back to realme 5 Pro, it is powered by a Snapdragon 712 (10 nm) and pack with up to 8GB RAM with 128GB storage. Realme 5 Pro also supports storage expansion via microSD card.
Ahead of its official launch in the Philippines, we’re glad that we were able to have our first look and experience with this phone and we are sharing our unboxing and first impressions through this article.
In a very traditional realme smartphone box, realme 5 Pro contains the usual case and paper documentations inside right off the bat along the phone unit neatly tucked and wrapped to secure the brand-new phone unit as it is being transported from the factory to the last drop-off.
Inside, you will find the 20W VOOC 3.0 flash charge charger, USB-A to USB-C cables, and the SIM ejector tool.
One thing’s missing though. There are no earphones with a mic included in the package.
Upgraded from the realme 3 Pro design, we are looking at a flashy metallic-like and Gorilla Glass 5 body and framed on a 6.3-inch (16.0cm) FHD+ display with high-precision dispensing process that narrowed the black edge and increased the screen-to-body ratio to 90.6% for a wider and clearer view. With a lot of smartphones coming out with a space-like design, the realme 5 Pro captivates with its New Crystal Design, an upgrade from classical diamond-cutting. After 133 times of polish, realme 5 Pro finally has the nanometer holographic color with the cutting texture. Every angle shines brightly in reflections that you can enjoy in two color variants: Sparkling Blue and Crystal Green.
The realme 5 Pro boasts with a quad camera setup on the back with a 48-megapixel primary shooter with an aperture of f/1.8 Sony IMX586. With the ultra large aperture and the half-inch sensor, realme 5 Pro can capture great nightscapes even in low-light condition. When you turn on the Super Nightscape mode, you can take stunning night shots, with the help of multi-frame engine and HDR.
There’s also an 8-megapixel f/2.25 119-degree ultra-wide second camera, a 2-megapixel f/2.4 4cm macro third camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth fourth camera. The f/2.4 aperture gives more bokeh effect especially when you’re using the Portrait mode.
For selfies, it sports 16-megapixel f/2.0 Sony IMX471 sensor front camera.
Under the hood
The ColorOS system supports data sharing limit via portable hotspot, fingerprinting to quickly enter the privacy space, and more interesting AR Core. Compared to Snapdragon 710, the graphics performance of Snapdragon712 AIE improves 35％ features high performance and low power consumption with the help of the octa-core 10nm advanced process technology.
With the newly upgraded 2.3GHz main frequency, the overall performance has been improved by 10%. The new graphics processing architecture has increased the energy efficiency up to 35% and the third AI engine helps to increase the efficiency in speech recognition and image optimization.
As compared to other large battery capacity, the realme 5 Pro’s 4035mAh VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 will only take 1.38 hours to charge. 43% battery can be juiced up after 1-hour gaming. That is 4 times quicker than a normal charge.
Highlights: Splash-Resistant Design
The airtight waterproof sealing protects all interior and exterior components, including the screen, back cover, and the buttons. The waterproof design has passed the Real Quality test.

In India, realme 5 Pro is priced at Rs. 13,999 (around P10,200) for its 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant, Rs. 14,999 (around P10,900) for its 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant, and Rs. 16,999 (around P12,000) for its 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant. The Realme 5 Pro is available in Crystal Green and Sparkling Blue colour variants.
Value and Affordability
We are still on the guessing game as to how much will realme 5 Pro will be available in the country but we are sure that with all the specs and features of this phone, the realme 5 Pro is one to compete the budget to midrange smartphone category. We assure that this phone won’t break the bank when is comes out in October in the Philippine market.
