External storage is switching lanes to a whole new ball game.
The Transcend ESD240C is an external SSD that is about the size of lighter, or a Zippo. Well, not exactly. It’s a little taller and a little slimmer. But you get the basic idea. It’s ridiculously small. It will fit in any pocket you’ve got and you’ll ever forget that it’s there.
The test unit we reviewed was the 120GB configuration. To me, that sounds reasonable, especially if Transcend is batting for a professional homerun solution. 120GB should be enough to store videos you’d need to edit, documents, photos, everything else you might need, and keep them safe long enough for transfer. There are 240GB and 480GB versions.
You wouldn’t have to wait long as the ESD240C has a 520MB read speed and 460MB write speed, which is, blazing fast.
Transcend says the metallic body has been “rigorously tested” which gives it “optimum shock-resistance.” When follow those words to the teeth, you’ll think the ESD240C can take more than a serious beating. Now, I’m just going to take Transcend’s words to heart because I don’t have the gonads to see how shock-resistant this drive is.
As another layer of securing your data, the ESD240C is supported by Transcend’s Elite software, which would let your backup files, encrypt and decrypt data, restore data, among others. This covers Windows, MacOS, and Android.
The Transcend ESD240C is totally compatible for on-the-go mobile devices—aka your phone—and gaming consoles like the PS4.
Obviously, the Transcend ESD240C is not something meant for everyone. There are drives out there with bigger storage, many of them from Transcend as well, and any of those might be more suited to others, especially if you have a large collection of data. What the ESD240C offers is the speed of letting you transfer files between devices in mere seconds. If this is something that sounds right for you, then Transcend ESD240C is something you might want to check out.
