Despite the digital era we all live in today where almost everything can be accessed through a click or a swipe on a smartphone, printers still play a vital role in producing physical documents that are important for firms and companies. Just like any other gadget, to stay relevant in the fast-paced world of technology, printer brands continually improve their offerings to bring convenience and efficiency to users. Among the companies with this kind of reputation is HP.
For many years, HP has evolved its array of printing solutions by inculcating a number of innovative features. Our team previously reviewed the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020, an advanced type of an AIO printer that’s packed with functionalities for productivity and security. Now, we’ll take a look at a more toned down version of an HP printer, the HP Laser MFP 137fnw.
Announced in the Philippines in the last quarter of 2019, the HP Laser MFP 137fnw is one of the models under the HP Laser MFP 130 series, which HP introduced with an aim of providing low-cost printing solutions without compromising quality and reliability.
Made as a multifunction or an all-in-one printer, the HP Laser MFP 137fnw is an ideal addition for workspaces of small- and medium-sized businesses. Since it’s a laser printer, producing multiple pages will only take little time, since these types of printers are known for speed, and are considered more economical because their precise printing technology results in less wastage of ink. On paper, the HP Laser MFP 137fnw has a print speed of 20ppm for black pages, and has a duty cycle or an average monthly pages production of 10,000 pages printed on A4 papers.
The HP Laser MFP 137fnw comes in a neat package with a few but necessary accessories inside including a power chord and a USB cable, plus the usual paperworks like the setup guide and the reference guide. What we appreciate about the packaging of this printer is that the ink cartridges are pre-installed, saving users from the hassle of actually putting the ink inside. Speaking of ink cartridges, an added layer of security on the HP Laser MFP 137fnw has to do with this, since the said printer is among the latest printer models of HP that only work with genuine HP cartridges or those who carry an HP original chip. With this, users are assured that the printing quality wouldn’t be compromised due to illegitimate HP cartridges.
Setting up the HP Laser MFP 137fnw in our office went like a breeze. All that’s needed is to plug the power cable and connect the printer to the network, then the device is good to go. Testing the printing quality of the HP Laser MFP 137fnw, we tried printing a number of pages with it, and as expected from a laser printer that carries the HP brand, it delivered pages with sharp texts and smooth black ink. And since it’s a multifunction device, printing isn’t the only thing it can do. The HP Laser MFP 137fnw can also be used as a scanner, a copier, and a fax machine. An added component for its convenience feature which we really liked is its compatibility with the HP Smart App, which allows wireless control of the device. Even if the user is away from the printer, he or she can remotely print, scan, and copy documents as long as the device such as smartphones and laptops are connected with the same network as the printer.
It can also be concluded that the HP Laser MFP 137fnw is user-friendly, since it has buttons that only need a few presses for an action to be done. On its control panel located near its glass panel are buttons for ID copy, contrast, scale and scan, information button, and the usual controls for menu, and left and right arrow buttons, a cancel button and a back button. This printer also has an inclusive button controls for fax which include the address book button, redial/pause button, and on hook dial button.
The HP Laser MFP 137fnw does exactly what it’s meant to do, and with that, it has proven itself to be a worthy addition inside an office space.
